SAM SCHAFFER: Hattan Torah
Samuel Schaffer has been a member of GHC for 59 years. Sam was born in the Bronx, and attended De Witt Clinton High School and went on to graduate from City College. Sam attended dental school at University of Louisville, where he met Ann z"l. They were married for 70 years until Ann’s death in 2024. After dental school, Sam served in the Army during the Korean war. He has worked as a dentist in private practice since then. Sam and Ann were regular attendees at Sunday morning minyan for many years, and Sam has been an active participant in both Shabbat services as well as Minyan. Sam has two children, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Mazel Tov Sam!
ALLYN SALPETER: Kallat Beresheit
From Allyn: I am in my 10th year of membership at GHC and immediately became involved in Synagogue life, both as a regular Shabbat attendee and an active member of several committees and Boards.
I have been on the Sisterhood Board for 8 years, 6 years as Financial Secretary (both my past position and now my current) and 2 years as President. I serve(d) on the Board of Trustees for 7 years and on various committees including Membership, Second Pillar, Nominating and Usher Squad, and help out on Shabbat in Kiddush preparation. I have also been the Editor-in-Chief of the Synagogue’s bulletin, The Hamvaser.
GHC has been a second home to me and it is so meaningful for me to be selected as one of this year’s honorees at Simchat Torah.
Mazel Tov Allyn!
