10:00 AM - 12:00 PMGHC Social HallFIVE YEARS SINCE CHARLOTTESVILLE: SISTERHOOD PRESENTS DIANE D'COSTA
In the 5 years that has passed since the March in Charlottesville, VA, what has changed and what hasn't? Has Anti-Semitism increased, decreased, or changed?
August 12, 2022 marked five years since the deadly Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. This event stunned Jews and Americans alike. This event made us realize that we may not be safe in places that we consider safe.
Please join us for a question and answer session with Diane D'Costa, who was near the 'frontline' during the march. The event begins with a delicious brunch, followed by a dialogue with our guest via Zoom. Event is free if you have paid your Sisterhood dues, otherwise cost is $18.
About our guest: Diane D’Costa is an educator, artist, and organizer originally from Laurel, Maryland and a graduate of the University of Virginia. As a queer, brown, Jewish woman, combating systems of oppression and building coalitions amongst marginalized communities is at the center of her work. Diane was a Lawn Resident at UVA during the alt-right torch march in 2017 and a witness in the trial against march organizers. She currently serves as the Director of Advocacy and Community Partnerships for Prince George's County Council Member Edward Burroughs and was formerly a middle school teacher in Washington, D.C.
